Julia Durbin children enjoy firefighter visit

Julia Durbin firefighter visit

Following an interest in the emergency services, children from Julia Durbin Day Nursery in Headington were delighted to welcome local firefighters to the setting for a special visit.

At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Roosevelt Drive, firefighters gave captivated pre-schoolers a guided tour of the fire engine and its sirens, before speaking to them about the equipment used to extinguish flames and the protective clothing worn.

As part of the exciting learning experience, children were able to try on the uniform and ask the firefighters their questions, before presenting the local heroes with themed pictures they had created in focused arts and crafts sessions and posing for photographs as a group.

Julia Durbin Day Nursery Business Administrator, Emma Parry explained;

“This was a fantastic learning experience for the children and really helped cement their understanding of the important work the fire service do within our community. It was lovely to see the admiration the group had for the firefighters, and this has really sparked their curiosity and inspired further activities in nursery, including role play and co-research.”
