    Participation in the project

    You have volunteered to participate in this project and have undertaken cultural awareness training to prepare you for your trip. The purpose of the cultural awareness training is to ensure that all participants in the project have a good understanding and awareness of the cultural expectations of them as visitors within the country. We have carried this compulsory training out before visits commence to ensure that all colleagues understand that the country they are visiting may have differing beliefs and culture to themselves. If you have any concerns or questions after participating in this training it is important that you contact the International Quality Manager as soon as possible.

    Expectations during the trip

    The training you’ve received emphasises the importance of being respectful to the culture of the country you are visiting. To recap some of the important points:

  • -It is illegal to consume or possess alcohol in Sharjah. It is also illegal to enter Sharjah having obviously consumed alcohol elsewhere, this includes during your flight and day trips into Dubai.
  • -Dress code is conservative/modest. Long trousers and skirts (at least covering knees) are recommended, while tops need to cover shoulders, upper arms, and cleavage. Avoid tight fitting clothes. If you are visiting a religious building, you will need to cover completely with an Abaya.
  • -Swearing or offensive language/gestures are also prohibited and are an arrestable offense.
  • -You may need to remove your shoes when entering some buildings or rooms, just follow the lead of whoever is guiding you.
  • -When meeting someone for the first time, follow their lead with regard to hand shaking. Some men will not shake hands.

    Whilst participating in the Sharja International Project colleagues must be aware of and adhere to the following requirements;

  • 3 instances of sickness absence will result in you being required to return to work in your base nursery in England.
  • 1 instance of unauthorised absence will result in you being required to return to work in your base nursery in England.
  • Punctuality is of utmost importance, failure to attend work on time may result in your return to work in your base nursery in England.
  • Working in partnership with the Sharjah nurseries and building positive professional relationships is vital to the success of this project, breakdown of said relationships is not optional
  • All colleagues participating in the project must be respectful of the cultural differences and comply with the rules and regulations of the UAE, specifically Sharjah.
  • Any conduct or behaviour that negatively impacts the project will result in colleagues returning to base nurseries in England and should the conduct or behaviour be deemed in breach of Company Policy, the International Colleague Agreement, the Inter-cultural and Audit Training, Senior Practitioner - International Role Guide, or any other rules specifically relating to this project, we reserve the right to take action in line with the Childbase Disciplinary Policy and Procedure.

    Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the expectations set out in the Senior Practitioner – International role guide provided to you alongside this agreement. Also provided with this agreement are the slides from the Cultural Awareness Training course for your reference.

    This is a work trip and you are expected to follow the Childbase Code of Conduct at all times. Please ensure you read this policy before signing below to confirm you agree to the terms of this agreement. You are also required to recomplete the Childbase Confidentiality Agreement which you will be prompted to complete after filling out this agreement.

    Holiday and Reward Days;

  • Colleagues are not permitted to request or take annual leave for the duration of each trip
  • We have updated your holiday scheme in MyView so that you will received Bank holidays for the 2024/25 holiday year. For this holiday year (1st April 2024 -31st March 2025) you will need to book any bank holidays that you take. If you are required to work a Bank Holiday you will not need to book the day in MyView and may use the bank holiday entitlement you’ve been given in lieu on an alternative day.
  • You will not be eligible to accrue Partnership Reward Days for the coming quarters. This will mean that you will have no allocation for Q3 and Q4 of 2024 and Q1 of 2025 as the two trips span the reference periods for all three quarters. As you are aware the reason for this decision is that you will be working less hours while in Sharjah whilst being paid your normal full time salary.
  • Colleagues who have not taken any Q2 Partnership Reward Day allocation may submit a request to sell their Q2 hours. The request should be submitted via MyView. You will receive the payment at the end of the quarter. You are not eligible to take your Q2 entitlement on your return as entitlement cannot be carried forward into the next quarter.

    Support during the trip

    During your trip you will be supported by Vicky Chinnapen, International Quality Manager and any concerns should be reported to her in the first instance.
