There were learning opportunities at every turn for children from Highbury Lodge Day Nursery in Hitchin as they made a trip into town for a special afternoon tea.
Following an interest in role play activities and imaginative play in their ‘home corner’ area at the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Highbury Road, children were delighted to visit Molly’s Tea Room, where they enjoyed a selection of homemade sandwiches, scones and cakes, as well as their very own cups of tea, served using real china crockery.
During the experience, children were able to practice their table etiquette and discuss good manners, before using their language and communication skills to talk about the food they were eating, as well as the scenery around them on the walk back to the nursery.
Highbury Lodge Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Emma-Louise Needham explained;
“The visit to Molly’s Tea Room was a fantastic experience for the children and they couldn’t wait to tell their families about their exciting day out. Developing an understanding of the world depends on children being able to find things out for themselves, and this real life activity was a brilliant way of aiding emotional, social and cognitive development.”
