Fitness Week at Field House Day Nursery

There was excitement at every turn for children at Field House Day Nursery in Buckingham as they were introduced to a variety of new sports and physical activities during a special Fitness Week at the setting, all whilst raising vital funds for charity, Bliss.

At the award-winning day nursery on Tingewick Road, children showcased their creativity by making a replica olympic torch, before researching flags from around the world and competing in their very own games. The group were also delighted to receive a visit from an Olympic gymnastics coach, who gave an insight into the competition and training involved.

As part of the festivities, children were delighted to experience hockey sessions with their talented Nursery Practitioner, Kirsty Freshwater, who in her spare time is also a premier league hockey player, as well as other activities including a ‘mini mudder’ obstacle course, egg and spoon race, javelin, long jump, relay races and baby yoga for younger children.

To further the learning experience, children also learnt how to take care of their bodies through healthy eating, which was supported by making fresh fruit salads and smoothies, before exploring the countryside with a walk in the local fields.

As a result of their efforts and generous donations from nursery families, Field House were delighted to raise a grand total of £311.00 for their chosen charity, Bliss, which will now go towards helping babies born sick or premature, as well as their loved ones.

Field House Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Lucy Piosek explained;

“We had a fantastic time during Fitness Week and the children were thrilled to try so many different activities, supported by some wonderful professionals in their respective sports. Regular exercise has a host of benefits for pre-schoolers, including improving balance and posture, aiding concentration, building stronger bones and enhancing sleep.”
