A total of three childhood cancer charities have benefited from a £3,000 donation, following an application to the Childbase Partnership Charity Support Fund from a colleague at Highfield Day Nursery in Edgbaston who is on a mission to make a difference.
Following the acute lymphoblastic leukaemia diagnosis of his seven year-old nephew Vinnie, Highfield Day Nursery Chef, Ian Wincott, was delighted to have his request approved for three causes that had helped his family on their journey, with £1,000 each going to Ben’s Den, Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust and Children of Worcestershire Cancer Fund.
The money from the Childbase Partnership Charity Support Fund, which is in place to help worthy causes away from the company’s charity of the year, The Trussell Trust, was granted on the same day that Vinnie rang the bell to mark the end of his treatment, surrounded by his proud doctors, nurses and family members who lined the corridors of the hospital.
Vinnie, who was unexpectedly born with Down syndrome, was thrilled to celebrate with his friends and loved ones at a special end of treatment party, surrounded by his favourite character guests including Spiderman, Moana, Captain America and Princess Jasmine.
Highfield Day Nursery Chef, Ian Wincott explained;
“Vinnie is such a happy boy who has already been through so much in his life, he is an inspiration to all of us and we are over the moon to be making this donation in his name. Ben’s Den, Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust and Children of Worcestershire Cancer Fund are incredible causes who provide a lifeline to families like ours in their darkest time and we are so grateful to be able to help others who are facing this awful disease.”
