Festivities were well underway at Julia Durbin Day Nursery in Headington as children and practitioners joined millions across the world in celebrating the festival of Diwali.
With the expert insight of Nursery Practitioner, Kiara Sidhu, who celebrates the occasion herself, pre-schoolers from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Roosevelt Drive were delighted to explore the traditional customs of the Festival of Light and learn more about the important message of good triumphing over evil and light over darkness.
To further understanding, children showcased their creativity by making their very own rangoli patterns using coloured sand, as well as exploring Diya candle holders, dancing to traditional music, reading themed books and decorating their classroom for the occasion.
Julia Durbin Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Aimee Corcoran explained;
“Our study of different religions, traditions and customs is a year-round focus in nursery but we all, particularly the children, really enjoy celebrating important events like Diwali. It’s always wonderful to have the personal input of our practitioners to help enrich the learning experiences of our children and promote a wider understanding of the world and diversity within our community.”
We prioritise the importance of outdoor play at Cedars Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard. All children at our Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ nursery have access to our large, natural garden area on a daily basis as we recognise the impact that being outdoors has on a child’s social, emotional and physical development. The children enjoy planting vegetables and tasting their produce, served by our dedicated Nursery Chef.
