Diwali celebrations at Green Park

Festivities were well underway at Green Park Day Nursery in Reading as children, parents and colleagues joined millions worldwide in celebrating the Hindu festival of Diwali.

Dressed in bright colours and cultural clothing, families were invited to join their children at the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on South Oak Way, where they enjoyed a special lunch and took part in a series of inspired activities in the decorated rooms, including creating their very own diya lamps from clay, which they took home to light over the period.

As part of the occasion, pre-schoolers were also delighted to ice biscuits for their pudding at the party, as well as dancing to traditional music and designing their own rangoli patterns as they learnt about the customs of the festival and the message of good triumphing over evil.

Green Park Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Grace Critcher explained;

“We were thrilled to have so many parents join us for our Diwali celebrations, and we made some lovely memories that we hope they will remember for a long time to come. Our study of different religions, traditions and customs is a year-round focus and this was a brilliant way of learning about the festival, whilst having the chance to catch up with our families.”
