Devonshire celebrate National Apprenticeship Week

Devonshire National Apprenticeship Week

The spotlight was on Early Years professionals in-training at Devonshire Day Nursery in Chiswick as they were celebrated by their colleagues during National Apprenticeship Week.

At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Bennett Street, Apprentice; Kelly Kaminski was gifted a bouquet of flowers and a bag of presents, as well as other treats including self-care items and a diary, whilst recently qualified Helena Fernandez-Cuervo received a reward payment, certificate and gift bag, presented by Childbase Partnership Chairman, Mike Thompson during a special visit to the setting to celebrate her professional development.

Having received a distinction grade in her Level 3 studies, Helena is now showcasing her talents as a full-time Nursery Practitioner, whilst Kelly has finished her diploma and is currently working on her functional skills; both colleagues have been encouraged by their proud Manager, Emmy Avery, to aim for her job in the future.

The ‘careers not jobs’ focus at the company is underpinned by Princess Royal Award-winning training, a full range of leadership courses, mentoring and support via The Childbase Partnership Academy of Excellence, established in 2021 to support all Apprentices in-house as they gain their qualifications alongside practical nursery experience.

Devonshire Day Nursery Manager, Emmy Avery explained;

“As a nursery, we’ve had a brilliant experience with the Childbase Academy of Excellence, which has gone above and beyond to support our talented Apprentices, curating tailored plans unique to their individual learning styles and keeping me informed if they need extra support in certain areas of their training. The amount of knowledge they have gained has been astounding and their confidence blossoming has been truly amazing to witness.”

“I am so proud of our Apprentices, who both have young children of their own, they are incredibly committed to their vocation and have even taken time out of their personal lives to attend coaching sessions to further their skills. They are such an asset to our nursery, and we are so happy to be celebrating them this week”, she added.

Following investment at the Academy’s Buckinghamshire headquarters, apprentices also have inspiring learning environments, the latest technology and upscaled wellbeing amenities like barista-style refreshments on tap, home-cooked meals by the talented resident chef and cosy ‘chill out’ zones which they can enjoy during their training days.

Head of Childbase Training Academy of Excellence, Kara Tuckey said:

“We believe that education is the cornerstone of progress. With this belief, we have curated a team of passionate educators and experts who are committed to providing the highest quality of teaching, learning and assessment. Our commitment to excellence is unwavering, and we strive to set new standards in apprenticeship education.”

That includes Functional Skill Tutors supporting students with Maths and English both at the Academy and in nursery, as well as a team of Childbase Partnership experts, many of whom have worked within the 44-nursery settings, providing face to face training, in-person observations and support wherever required to help learners achieve their qualifications.

The Academy of Excellence is currently delivering courses in L2 Early Years Practitioner, L3 Early Years Educator, L3 Team Leader Supervisor and L5 Early Years Lead Practitioner, with the launch of L5 Manager and L3 Business Administrator also due to be rolled out soon.

Candidates must be at least 16 years old and be successful at interview for an Apprenticeship position. Vacancies can be found here:

National Apprenticeship Week runs from 5th – 11th February 2024.
