Crescent Day Nursery answer food bank appeal for toiletries
Children from Crescent Day Nursery in Edgbaston were delighted to visit their local supermarket to help pick out essential supplies to donate to the Birmingham Central Foodbank, following their appeal to the public for toiletries.
Having chosen an array of personal care items, including toilet roll, nappies, toothpaste and shower gel, pre-schoolers from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Calthorpe Road were able to help practitioners pack the boxes, before the 54.9kg delivery was made to the local drop-off point in order to help local people who need it most.
Following a record-rise in demand for items at food banks due to the cost-of-living crisis, Crescent have pledged a year-long fundraising and donation drive for The Trussell Trust, with generous families making contributions where possible to support the initiative.
Crescent Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Amie Draper explained;
“We are so grateful to our nursery families for their kindness towards the worthy causes we support. The children are showing a great understanding of why helping others is so important and we are thrilled to be making this donation to benefit people in our community.”
Birmingham Central Foodbank are currently appealing for tinned soup, pasta sauce, UHT milk, squash, tinned fruit and vegetables, baked beans, rice, biscuits and toiletries.
