There were bittersweet celebrations at Sandfield Day Nursery in Headington as children marked the end of their time at the award-winning setting with a special rainforest-themed graduation ceremony, surrounded by their friends, families and proud practitioners.
Dressed in their jungle inspired outfits and traditional mortar boards, pre-schoolers from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Sandfield Road were delighted to receive their scrolls of achievement, before posing for photos in front of themed backgrounds, sustainable balloon arches and rainforest vines complete with animals including monkeys and parrots.
As part of the festivities before heading to school, children enjoyed a workshop from Little Magic Train, who delivered an immersive experience developed by speech and language therapists, complete with music and rainforest resources, before tucking into a party lunch and bespoke two-tier jungle cake, created by talented Business Administrator, Becci Worth.
Having chosen the theme based off their interest in the rainforest and the creatures who live there, pre-schoolers were thrilled to learn that a donation had been made by Sandfield on their behalf in order to preserve precious habitats and restore native trees in the Peruvian Amazon, with certificates presented to them at their graduation, as well as a gift bag containing treats and a bespoke graduation photo frame with their picture from the day.
It is for such initiatives that Sandfield have been awarded a prestigious Green Flag award as part of the international Eco-Schools scheme, the highest accolade is the programme, which is given for exceptional environmental awareness and conservation practices.
Sandfield Day Nursery Manager, Kim Hambridge explained;
“We had a magical day celebrating the achievements of our pre-schoolers and there really wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Everybody was blown away by the effort that the team had gone to in order to transform our rooms and garden into the rainforest scene, and we were so proud to give the children the send off they deserve. We will miss them so much, but are confident that they are equipped with the skills needed to flourish in their next adventure.”
We prioritise the importance of outdoor play at Cedars Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard. All children at our Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ nursery have access to our large, natural garden area on a daily basis as we recognise the impact that being outdoors has on a child’s social, emotional and physical development. The children enjoy planting vegetables and tasting their produce, served by our dedicated Nursery Chef.
