Celebrating Children’s Art Week at Windmill Hill Day Nursery
Pre-schoolers from Windmill Hill Day Nursery in Swindon were delighted to showcase their creativity as they took part in a series of activities to celebrate Children’s Art Week.
At the award-winning setting on Windmill Hill Business Park, Whitehill Way, children began by investigating famous artists and their iconic works using books and resources, before taking to the garden outside to re-create a series of the renowned paintings on a large scale.
From Picasso to Kandinsky, children were inspired by the styles and techniques they had observed and were thrilled to experiment with a range of colours to imitate the designs.
Windmill Hill Day Nursery Quality Manager, Gemma Gill explained;
“The children have shown a real interest in mark making so this week has presented a fantastic opportunity to strengthen this. Not only has this been a great deal of fun, but offers a host of benefits including aiding concentration, improving memory, developing fine motor skills and encouraging self-esteem and personal expression.”
We prioritise the importance of outdoor play at Cedars Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard. All children at our Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ nursery have access to our large, natural garden area on a daily basis as we recognise the impact that being outdoors has on a child’s social, emotional and physical development. The children enjoy planting vegetables and tasting their produce, served by our dedicated Nursery Chef.
