Berryfields Day Nursery children visit The Horse Trust

As part of celebrations for the King’s Coronation, families and colleagues from Berryfields Day Nursery in Aylesbury were delighted to visit The Horse Trust in Princes Risborough.

Visiting the home for retired horses and oldest equine charity in the world, children from the setting on Nimrod Street were able to get up close and personal with the creatures, many of which served as Royal Mews horses and have transported the reigning monarch to every Coronation since George IV’s in 1821, before learning more about their exciting working lives and getting a glimpse of their luxurious stable block and countryside surroundings.

During the visit, families generated £224.00 for The Horse Trust through car entries alone, as well as purchasing items in the café and gift shop, which will directly benefit the animals and help fund their care, whilst £60.00 was raised for the nursery’s charity of the year, The Trussell Trust, by creating and selling picnic lunch boxes for the children to enjoy on the visit.

Back at Berryfields, children were inspired to learn more about horses and the role they play in royal duties, before showcasing their creativity with a series of activities to mark the Coronation, from designing their own crowns to making masterpieces of the new monarch.

Berryfields Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Hannah Taylor explained;

“This was a fantastic experience for everyone involved and a brilliant parent partnership event. We believe families and colleagues working together is paramount to ensuring children get the most from their nursery experience and the bonds that are formed become very important. We are also thrilled to be helping two incredible causes in the process.”

Berryfields Day Nursery have adopted The Trussell Trust for a year-long fundraising drive, with regular donations to the Aylesbury Foodbank to help local people who need it most.
