Bear Hunt inspired activities for Grasshoppers Day Nursery children
Following an interest in ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, children from Grasshoppers Day Nursery in St Albans were delighted to take part in a series of activities based on the story.
At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on York Road, pre-schoolers were delighted to take part in a sensory bear hunt trail, complete with materials including grass, shaving foam, sand, branches, pinecones and flour snow to represent various scenes from the book.
As part of the learning experience, children used their hands to explore the different textures and how they linked to the story, as well as their properties including colour and feel, helping to develop language and communication, memory function and fine motor skills.
Grasshoppers Day Nursery Manager, Claire Greaves explained;
“The children have been captivated by We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and were thrilled to be immersed in the story in this way. We love to follow their personal interests to ensure they get the most from their nursery experience and build confidence to prepare for school.”
We prioritise the importance of outdoor play at Cedars Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard. All children at our Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ nursery have access to our large, natural garden area on a daily basis as we recognise the impact that being outdoors has on a child’s social, emotional and physical development. The children enjoy planting vegetables and tasting their produce, served by our dedicated Nursery Chef.
