Taking fundraising to new heights at Hertford Barns

There was cause for celebration at Hertford Barns Day Nursery as devoted Nursery Practitioner, Mollie Bewley, showcased her bravery with a skydive to raise funds for charity.

Taking to the skies over Devon, Mollie from the award-winning setting on Cole Green made the jump from 15,000ft to raise money for The Trussell Trust food bank network, raising a grand total of £420.00 for the worthy cause thanks to the donations of generous supporters, which will now go towards providing emergency food parcels to local people facing hardship.

The skydive is the latest in a series of fundraisers for the team, who have recently enjoyed initiatives including a fun-filled Summer Fete with families, raising £680.00 for the charity, as well as making regular donations of food and toiletries to their local food bank.

Hertford Barns Day Nursery Practitioner, Mollie Bewley explained;

“I am absolutely thrilled to be making this donation to The Trussell Trust and supporting them in their important mission to ensure nobody goes hungry. The skydive was amazing and truly the best experience I’ve ever had, made all the better by knowing it will help our community.”

Highfield Sports Day raises funds for charity

There were exciting opportunities at every turn for children at Highfield Day Nursery in Edgbaston as they showcased their skills during a special Sports Day at the setting.

At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Highfield Road, children of all ages were delighted to try a range of physical activities, from younger groups taking part in sponsored walks and exercises to develop motor skills, to older children trying some traditional Sports Day challenges including the egg and spoon race, sack race, relay and obstacle courses.

During the festivities, children worked together in teams to follow the rules and learn new techniques, whilst families and colleagues made donations to The Trussell Trust, raising a grand total of £273.00 for the worthy cause, which will help local people facing hardship.

Highfield Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Louise Walker explained;

“The children had a fantastic Sports Day and were thrilled to try some of these activities for the very first time. Not only was it lots of fun, but brilliant for developing key skills such as co-ordination, balance, teamwork and self-esteem. We are also incredibly pleased to be able to make this donation to The Trussell Trust with the help of our generous families, who do such crucial work in providing emergency food parcels to those who need it most.”

Summer celebrations at Berryfields

Festivities were well underway at Berryfields Day Nursery in Aylesbury as families enjoyed a series of events to celebrate their school leavers and raise vital funds for charity.

Starting with a bittersweet graduation ceremony for their ‘Class of 2023’, pre-schoolers from the award-winning setting on Nimrod Street were delighted to dress up in traditional gowns and mortar boards, where they walked the red carpet and received their scrolls of achievement in front of the proud audience of family members, practitioners and friends.

During the celebrations, children were thrilled to enjoy a farewell lunch with their classmates in the specially decorated setting, before each receiving gift bags with presents including a bespoke graduation photo frame, containing their picture from the special day.

Following on from the graduation event, Berryfields families gathered at the nursery for a Summer Fete, where children enjoyed immersing themselves in fun and games on offer, including hook-a-duck, tin can alley, guess the sweets in a jar, face painting and more.

Meanwhile, parents took part in a charity raffle with prizes including gift hampers and beauty sets, as well as socialising over refreshments and delving into a bake sale, with proceeds from the day raising a grand total of £858.00 for The Trussell Trust food bank network.

Berryfields Day Nursery Manager, Jessica D’Arcy explained;

“This was our first graduation ceremony since opening as a nursery so it was a really special event for all involved, and very emotional to say goodbye to our original group of children. We can’t thank our wonderful nursery families enough for the support they have shown this year, and have been blown away by their generosity towards our chosen charity, The Trussell Trust, with our donation now helping to feed local people who need it most.”

Maples children receive correspondence from the King

There was a special delivery for children at Maples Day Nursery in Winchester as they received a special letter from King Charles, having sent the monarch an array of handmade cards to congratulate him on his Coronation back in May.

At the award-winning setting on Hatherley Road, pre-schoolers were delighted to receive a reply from Buckingham Palace, thanking them for their colourful designs and well wishes following the historic ceremony, as well as a card featuring a portrait photograph of King Charles and Queen Camilla on the day, which read;  

“We were deeply touched by your most kind and thoughtful message following our Coronation. We are enormously grateful to everyone who took part in the celebrations, and particularly appreciate that you so generously took the time to write to us on this very special occasion.”

Maples Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Lou Rowe explained;

“We were absolutely thrilled to receive such an exciting letter from the King, and this has inspired some lovely conversations and role play activities in nursery. The children had a fantastic time showcasing their creativity whilst making their cards and this was a brilliant opportunity to develop their writing and communication skills. We are so pleased with the reply and hope that this is a lasting memory for the group.”

Summer celebrations at Greengables

Festivities were well underway at Greengables Day Nursery in Owlsmoor as families enjoyed a series of events to celebrate their school leavers and raise money for charity.

Starting with a special graduation ceremony for their ‘Class of 2023’ at the Owlsmoor Community Centre, pre-schoolers from the award-winning setting on Yeovil Road were delighted to dress up in traditional gowns and mortar boards, where they received their certificates of achievement in front of the audience of proud parents and practitioners.

From police officers and princesses to singers and vets, children shared their career aspirations for the future, before receiving graduation gifts including a bespoke photo frame containing their picture from the day, as well as eco-friendly milk bottle top and cork tokens to exchange for food and drink at their Summer Fete later in the day.  

In the afternoon, all nursery families gathered at the setting for the annual summer celebration, with music, games and attractions including hook-a-duck, face painting, biscuit decorating, jewellery making, lucky dip and more, as well as stalls from local businesses run by both parents and staff; Creative Delights, Mabel’s Bowtique and Usborne Books.

During the event, families also had the opportunity to take part in an exciting raffle, with 45 prizes donated by parents and local businesses including gift hampers, Wilson sporting equipment, a photography session and the top prize of a 32” flatscreen TV, with proceeds from the day raising a grand total of £1,850.00 for The Trussell Trust food bank network.

Throughout the month, children and staff also enjoyed colour themed dress down days to raise money for the cause, whilst parents made kind donations of blue, green, yellow and red prizes including food and toiletries which were made into hampers for the Fete raffle.

“We had such a brilliant day celebrating with our wonderful nursery families and although saying goodbye to our lovely pre-schoolers is bittersweet, we are so excited to hear all about their next adventure. We have been blown away by the amount raised for The Trussell Trust and are so thankful to everyone who has contributed, as this money will do so much good in the community and help feed local people who are facing hardship.”

Celebrating the ‘Class of 2023’ at Willows Forest Fest

There were bittersweet celebrations at Willows Day Nursery in Stoke Mandeville as pre-school children marked the end of their time at the award-winning setting with a ‘Forest Fest’ graduation event, filled with themed activities in their enchanting woodland area outside.

To honour the achievements of their fifty young graduates before leaving for school, practitioners from the day nursery on Mandeville Road pulled out all the stops to make it a send-off to remember, decorating the forest space with flowers and bunting, as well as setting up a designated ‘chill out zone’ complete with yurt tents, filled with cosy pillows.

During the celebrations, pre-schoolers were immersed in inspired activities including pebble painting and forest digging, as well as dancing and games, before sitting down for one last meal together in the al fresco picnic area, where children put on their woodland creature masks and enjoyed handmade sandwiches, cakes, fruit platters, vegetable sticks and more.

Willows Day Nursery Manager, Jane Hobbs explained;

“The forest created a truly magical atmosphere for our children to commemorate this milestone. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them and have loved witnessing their growth and all the friendships they have made along the way. They will be sorely missed by us all, but we cannot wait to hear about their new adventures at school.”

Sports Day at Cedars

Cedars Sports Day

There were exciting opportunities at every turn for children at Cedars Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard as they showcased their skills during a special Sports Day at the setting.

Welcoming their proud families for the event, Ladybirds children from the award-winning day nursery on Mentmore Road were delighted to try a series of sporting activities for the first time, including hurdles, obstacle courses, ring toss games and the egg and spoon race.

Together, children worked in teams to follow the rules and learn new techniques, all whilst building on their motor skills, balance, hand-eye co-ordination and self-esteem.

To further the learning experience, children spoke about the importance of staying safe in the sun and taking care of their bodies through a balanced diet and physical activity.

Cedars Day Nursery Team Leader, Tatjana Bacholdina explained;

“We had a fantastic time at Sports Day with our lovely nursery families. Every child was a winner and they showed incredible sportsmanship and encouraged their friends every step of the way. They cheered each other on and showed great team spirit throughout.”

Windmill Hill children enjoy puppet theatre gift

Young storytellers from Windmill Hill Day Nursery in Swindon were delighted to receive the gift of a puppet theatre, thanks to the kind-hearted family of a child leaving to go to school.

The generous present is now being used by pre-schoolers from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Windmill Hill Business Park to put on their very own puppet shows and re-enact their favourite stories for captivated audiences using a variety of props.

The new puppet theatre has also inspired children to put pen to paper and create their own imaginative stories to role play, all whilst enhancing cognitive and social development, as well as building confidence and language and communication skills ready for school.

Windmill Hill Day Nursery Manager, Lora Worthington explained;

“We were so flattered to receive such an amazing gift for the nursery from one of our school leavers and the children have had the best time letting their imaginations run wild using the puppet theatre. We always strive to create exciting and stimulating learning environments and this present has really helped take creativity to the next level whilst nurturing key skills.”
