Highbury Lodge Day Nursery children enjoy trip to local tea room
There were learning opportunities at every turn for children from Highbury Lodge Day Nursery in Hitchin as they made a trip into town for a special afternoon tea.
Following an interest in role play activities and imaginative play in their ‘home corner’ area at the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Highbury Road, children were delighted to visit Molly’s Tea Room, where they enjoyed a selection of homemade sandwiches, scones and cakes, as well as their very own cups of tea, served using real china crockery.
During the experience, children were able to practice their table etiquette and discuss good manners, before using their language and communication skills to talk about the food they were eating, as well as the scenery around them on the walk back to the nursery.
Highbury Lodge Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Emma-Louise Needham explained;
“The visit to Molly’s Tea Room was a fantastic experience for the children and they couldn’t wait to tell their families about their exciting day out. Developing an understanding of the world depends on children being able to find things out for themselves, and this real life activity was a brilliant way of aiding emotional, social and cognitive development.”
Rowan Tree Day Nursery children enjoy London art excursion
There were learning opportunities at every turn for children at Rowan Tree Day Nursery in Welwyn Garden City as they took a trip into London to visit an immersive art gallery.
Following an interest in artists at the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Guessens Road, pre-schoolers were delighted to make the exciting journey to the Frameless exhibition in Marble Arch using trains and tubes, where they were surrounded by a total of 42 masterpieces, including ‘The Scream’ by Edvard Munch and ‘Starry Night’ by Van Gogh.
During the visit, children admired the famous artwork being projected onto the walls from different angles, from lying on the floor and looking up at the ceiling, to running across the floor as the art moved, all whilst listening to the specially selected music to accompany.
Rowan Tree Day Nursery Manager, Claire Ovenden explained;
“The trip to the Frameless exhibition proved to be an incredibly rich learning experience for our children and they were captivated during their visit. They couldn’t wait to tell their families about their exciting day out and this has inspired lots of related activities back at nursery.”
Festivities were well underway at Westwood Day Nursery in Coventry as children proudly modelled their homemade Easter bonnets for a special parade at the setting.
Having been tasked with making their bonnets over the Easter bank holiday, pre-schoolers from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Westwood Business Park were delighted to showcase their creations in front of their friends, practitioners and nursery families, before each being awarded an Easter treat for their efforts.
As part of the celebrations, children were immersed in themed activities, from decorating eggs to reading Easter themed stories, all whilst discussing their exciting Easter weekends.
Westwood Day Nursery Manager, Lyndsey Matthews explained;
“Our annual Easter Bonnet Parade is always a huge success and its lovely to see the hard work and creativity that goes into the designs. We love to mark a wide range of special occasions in nursery throughout the year to give the children a better understanding of the world around them and create lasting memories for our nursery families.”
Following an interest in countries of the world, pre-schoolers from Julia Durbin Day Nursery in Headington were delighted to build their very own replica Great Wall of China.
At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Roosevelt Drive, pre-schoolers proudly wore their protective high-vis clothing and goggles as they set about creating the structure with bricks and clay, using special tools and tape measures, as well as images for reference.
Whilst constructing the landmark, children learnt that the original wall spanned over 13,000 miles and took over 2,000 years to build, as well as other related facts from practitioners, including why the wall was built in the first place and the materials used to create it.
As part of the learning experience, pre-schoolers spoke about Chinese culture and ways of life, as well as looking at an array of books to carry out co-research, including ‘Peppa Pig’s Chinese New Year’ to better understand traditions and customs of the country.

“The children loved this immersive project and were so proud of the structure they had created. As well as giving the group a wider understanding of the world, this was a fantastic way of developing motor skills and promoting team working, problem solving and communication and language.”
Pet shop visit for delighted Devonshire Day Nursery children
Following an interest in animals and their life cycles, children from Devonshire Day Nursery in Chiswick were delighted to make a visit to their local pet shop, Chiswick Pets.
From rabbits and guinea pigs to bearded dragons, fish and stick insects, pre-schoolers from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Bennett Street were able to observe a range of creatures up close, as well as learning about their daily care routines from the experts.
During the trip, children were thrilled to meet the resident pet shop cat and watch as dogs had their hair cut, before purchasing hay in order to create their very own replica birds nest.

“The pet shop visit was hugely exciting for everyone involved and a brilliant extension of our learning on the topic. This was also a fantastic addition to our work on cultural capital and providing the children with rich experiences to further their understanding of the world around them. The group couldn’t wait to tell their families all about the trip.”
Sandfield Day Nursery children delight with eco-friendly Easter bonnets
Festivities were well underway at Sandfield Day Nursery in Headington as children proudly showcased their homemade Easter bonnets for a special competition at the setting.
Having been tasked with making their bonnets from environmentally friendly and ecologically conscious materials, pre-schoolers from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Sandfield Road were delighted to get creative with their families, with resources used including an Easter egg box and flowers from a nursery parent’s wedding bouquet.
As part of the celebrations, children were able to parade their creations around the nursery, whilst partaking families each made a £2 donation to The Trussell Trust as part of Sandfield’s year-long fundraising and donation drive to help feed local people.
At Sandfield, children take part in sustainable activities all year round, from planting and growing vegetables to crafting with natural materials, leading them to earn a prestigious ‘Green Flag’, the highest accolade in the international Eco-Schools programme, which is awarded for exceptional environmental awareness and conservation practices.
Sandfield Day Nursery Business Administrator, Becci Worth explained;
“The Easter Bonnet Competition was an amazing success and we were blown away by the imagination and effort that went into the designs. Our families are amazing at getting behind the worthy causes we support and we are delighted to be making this donation to the Trussell Trust, along with Easter eggs and essential food items to benefit the community.”

Generous parents and practitioners from Julia Durbin Day Nursery in Headington have made a donation of Easter eggs to the Oxford Food Hub to help local people who need it most.
Following a record-rise in demand for items at food banks due to the cost-of-living crisis, families from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Roosevelt Drive made the contribution of 162 chocolate eggs to ensure every child would receive a treat this Easter, with the overall donation weighing a grand total of 117g and spanning 18.3 metres.
Having pledged a year-long fundraising and donation drive for The Trussell Trust, parents and colleagues from the setting have been taking part in regular collections of essential food and household items to keep the organisations well stocked in supplies to serve Oxfordshire.

Following a record-rise in demand for items at food banks due to the cost-of-living, families from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Windmill Hill Business Park made the contribution of 45 chocolate eggs to help ensure each child would receive a treat this Easter.
Having pledged a year-long fundraising and donation drive for The Trussell Trust, parents and colleagues from the setting have been taking part in collections of essential food and household items to keep local food banks well stocked in supplies to serve the community.

Following a record-rise in demand for items at food banks due to the cost-of-living crisis, families from the award-winning setting on Coventry Road made the contribution of 47 chocolate eggs to help ensure every child would receive a treat this Easter.
Having pledged a year-long fundraising and donation drive for The Trussell Trust, parents and colleagues from the setting have been taking part in collections of essential food and household items to keep the charity well stocked in supplies to serve the community.

The Rugby Foodbank are urgently appealing for cream crackers, tinned meat, packet rice, strong carrier bags, squash, tinned tomatoes, custard and pasta sauce.

Generous parents and practitioners from Greengables Day Nursery in Owlsmoor have made a donation of Easter eggs to Crowthorne Foodbank to help local people who need it most.
Following a record-rise in demand for items at food banks due to the cost-of-living crisis, families from the award-winning day nursery on Yeovil Road made the contribution of 89 chocolate eggs to help ensure every child would receive a treat this Easter.
Having pledged a year-long fundraising and donation drive for The Trussell Trust, parents and colleagues from the setting have been taking part in collections of essential food and household items to keep the charity well stocked in supplies to serve the community.
