Highbury Lodge Day Nursery celebrate the ‘Class of 2022’
There were bittersweet celebrations at Highbury Lodge Day Nursery in Hitchin as children marked the end of their time at the award-winning setting with a weekend graduation ceremony, surrounded by their friends, families and proud practitioners.
At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Highbury Road, pre-schoolers were delighted to collect their scrolls of achievement, before posing for photos around the garden with beloved character favourites Elsa and Spiderman and enjoying a celebratory lunch spread, complete with sandwiches, cakes, vegetable platters, ice pops and more.
Highbury Lodge Day Nursery Team Leader, Lynsey Biddle explained;
“Everything we do here is focused on sending happy, confident and fully prepared children into mainstream schooling. We are celebrating that today but saying goodbye to children we have looked after since they were babies is very difficult,” she said.
For parents, who also had their older children that had previously attended Highbury Lodge in tow, the occasion was an emotional one as it signified the end of an era.
“While we keep in touch with the progress of our children in their schools we lose that close bond and regular contact with the parents who have been wonderfully supportive in helping us ensure each and every child gets the very most from their nursery experience. We will really miss them,” said Lynsey.
Cedar Park Day Nursery make vital food bank donation
Kind-hearted parents and practitioners from Cedar Park Day Nursery in Twyford have made a generous donation of essential food and household items to the Woodley Foodbank in Wokingham to help local people who need it most.
Following a record-rise in demand for items at food banks across the country due to the cost-of-living crisis, families from the award-winning setting on Bridge Farm Road made contributions of products such as cereal, pasta, tinned goods and toiletries, which were then collected by grateful Woodley Foodbank Manager, Richard Davies, in efforts to keep the charity well-stocked in supplies to serve the community.
Cedar Park Day Nursery Quality Manager, Maria Dymock explained;
“We are facing some really uncertain times at the moment and we are aware of the amount of families that are struggling. We really wanted to showcase our sense of community spirit and ease some of this hardship where possible; the food bank provides a crucial lifeline to so many in our area and we are so grateful for the generosity shown by all involved.”
In May 2022, The Trussell Trust, the UK’s leading food bank operator, reported a staggering 81% increase in food bank usage across the country over the past five years, with around 2.4 million food bank referrals made last year for families to receive emergency packages.
The Woodley Foodbank relies on the generosity of the public and volunteers and is currently appealing for long-life milk, tinned vegetables, pasta sauce, rice and toiletries.
Greengables Day Nursery children receive card from the Queen
There was excitement all round at Greengables Day Nursery in Owlsmoor as children received a card from the Queen, having written to her ahead of the Platinum Jubilee.
After sending their drawings and well wishes in a letter to congratulate Her Majesty on her 70-year reign, pre-schoolers from the award-winning setting on Yeovil Road were delighted to open the important mail, postmarked Buckingham Palace and containing a picture of the Queen, along with a message of gratitude to commemorate the occasion.
Inside the card, the message from the Queen read;
“I send you my grateful thanks for your kind message on the occasion of the Seventieth Anniversary of my Accession to the Throne.”
The exciting postal delivery follows a series of celebrations which took place at Greengables in June, including a ‘Very Royal Tea Party’ with children and their families in the garden outside, as well as crown making, bunting decorating and other themed activities.
Greengables Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Julia Grant explained;
“The children were absolutely thrilled to receive such a special card and have their creative efforts recognised. The Platinum Jubilee was a once in a lifetime event and presented a brilliant opportunity to extend our knowledge of British history. Our pre-schoolers had a fantastic time and this has been such a memorable way to round off the experience.”
Cedar Park Day Nursery 5k raises vital funds for Bliss
