Shopping, cooking and pizza at Twyford Day Nursery

Pizza was on the menu at the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Cedar Park Day Nursery recently, all made by the children themselves.

Children in nursery had expressed a desire to make pizza so the practitioners decided to enable this whilst extending the learning opportunities associated with it. They decided to take the children to the local supermarket to shop for ingredients whilst learning a bit more about the origins of food.

Cedar Park Manager Emma Kemp explained:

“Developing and encouraging children’s own interests help to promote enhanced learning in young children. The children had a great time going out on a trip alongside preparing their very own pizzas. Of course, eating them proved popular too.”

Cedar Park’s menu is accredited by the Soil Association because its approach to nutrition goes much further than just high-quality home-cooked meals. The ‘Food for Life Served Here’ accreditation is subject to annual inspections to ensure strict adherence to the criteria is maintained and improved, when possible, taking into account the latest research.
