From rubbish to roots at Knowle Green Day Nursery

Knowle Green Day Nursery in Staines is going for gold as they prepare to enter two prestigious awards for their green, environmental initiatives within the nursery.

The Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery is already an Eco Schools Silver Award winner but are now aiming for the highest accolade, to become a Green Flag holder. They are also entering this year’s Spelthorne in Bloom competition for ‘Best Contribution made by a School/nursery’.

The nursery has been busy recycling pallets, milk crates and tyres to transform their garden into an eco-friendly learning zone.

Knowle Green Manager Faye Walker said:

“Protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility and we integrate this into everyday practice at Knowle Green. In doing so, we hope that recycling will become the norm with our children and this learning will stay with them for life.”

Since its formation in 1989, the community-based Spelthorne in Bloom Campaign has helped to brighten up the Borough, improve the environment and given everyone the chance to be involved in a local competition.
