Peddle, Bake, Dress Up – Its All For Charity!
Whether it’s been a sponsored peddle, a Valentines cake sale or dressing up as Peter Pan for the day; children, parents, their families and our nursery teams have enthusiastically joined fund raising efforts in aid of our chosen charities, Build Africa and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. So far this year we are very proud to say that, with everyone’s amazing efforts, we have raised an incredible £24,000 across all of the nurseries.
Maples Nursery in Winchester is just one example of our nurseries getting creative with their fund raising ideas. The nursery has held several dress up days including a colour week where staff and children dressed in different colours each day with a rainbow day on the Friday. At Pennypot Day Nursery in Chobham they are looking forward to participating in the Great Ormond Street Hospital 'race for the kids' and hoping for fine weather for their summer fete at the end of July.
As you will know, last year, working with charity Build Africa, we were able to fund a new school block at Aputiput School in the Kumi district of Uganda. This year our aim is to raise enough money to equip the school with items such as books and pencils as well as pay for the teacher training, and projects which encourage parents to send their daughters to school.
Aputiput School serves more than 330 children who walk an average of 3 miles each way to attend school. As well as providing the children with vital learning and life skills, being at school also offers many of the children, their only meal of the day. Build Africa is a dynamic charity working exclusively in rural areas of Uganda and Kenya to help young people escape poverty through education and business enterprise. Their vision is for every young person in Africa to fulfill their potential and to make a difference. Our new charity for 2010, Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital first opened their doors on Valentines in 1852 with only 10 beds. Today, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust (GOSH) is a national centre of excellence in the provision of specialist children's healthcare. They currently deliver the widest range of specialties of any children's hospital in the UK. GOSH needs over £50 million a year to be able to provide the world-class care and services for its young patients and their families. In supporting this incredible provider of care to children, everyone at Childbase is able to help one of the most important deliverers of specialist children's care in the world, who really help children when it matters most. We know how much the children love being part of the fundraising efforts and we'd like thank all of our parents, families and friends for helping the children and Childbase to so successfully support these wonderful charities.
