Knowle Green ‘Safety Spies’ triumph in inspection
Preschool ‘Safety Spies’ at Knowle Green Day Nursery in Staines are celebrating a near perfect score following a tough Health and Safety inspection this month.
All 32 members of the preschool room at the Ofsted-rated ‘outstanding’ day nursery in Knowle Green play an important role in assisting the staff team to ensure everybody hits the marks in five clearly defined areas covering no fewer than 78 different aspects of health and safety relating to children, their environment and food.
A delighted Knowle Green Manager, Faye Walker, said the Safety Spies are invaluable members of the nursery team and that they are also learning important life lessons.
“Our children are learning to be aware of their surroundings and how to ensure their safety and that of others, but even more importantly the responsibilities associated with the role give them the confidence to speak out in the knowledge that we will act on their observations,” she said.
Duties of the ‘Knowle Green Safety Spies’ include reporting broken or damaged toys or equipment in the indoor and outdoor play and learning spaces immediately; ensuring all children and staff members wear their high visibility jackets in the garden and supporting each other is sitting with arms folded in ‘circle time’ so nobody trips or falls over them.
At meal times they find their named placemats, detailing important dietary requirements and information, and provide ‘Helping Hands’ in setting up and clearing away.
“Above all, they are supporting and caring for each other and learning important life lessons that prepare them for mainstream schooling and beyond. We are very proud of them all,” said Faye.
